The Avoca Christian Church "Hands of Faith" ministry is a group of volunteers seeking to offer purposeful help to our community cancer patients and their families.
Goal: To provide sensitive, emotional, physical, and spiritual care to the affected individuals and families by respecting a person's culture, religious tradition and faith commitments. We maintain a respectful image as we reflect Jesus Christ's example through service, scripture, testimony, prayer, presence and a listening heart through acts and words of God's love, care and comfort.
We offer a number of different areas of ministry to cancer patients and their families:
Prayer Network: A prayer network has been put in place to create a means by which those who desire prayer can voice their needs and have these requests faithfully and confidentially prayed for by the volunteer staff of Hands of Faith.
Transportation: Providing helpful assistance for those who need transportation for an appointment, pharmacy visits or to the grocery store.
Service: Visitation, prayer and being present with family members during surgery and recovery.
Soups after chemo/radiation treatments: O'Charley's Restaurant in Johnson City provides Hands of Faith with potato and/or harvest chicken soup each week to be distributed to patients having chemo/radiation treatments. We also have a group of volunteers that will cook soup, or whatever the patient feels like eating.
