WE HAVE 2 SEASONS OF INDOOR SOCCER SPONSORED BY AVOCA YOUTH.  ALTHOUGH BOTH OF THESE SEASONS ARE INDOOR SOCCER THEY VARY GREATLY IN WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT. WE PLAY IN THE GYM AT AVOCA CHRISTIAN CHURCH. AS OF NOW, THIS PROGRAM IS OPEN TO 5TH-8TH GRADERS. OUR HOPE IS TO OPEN THIS UP TO OTHER AGES INCLUDING ADULTS AFTER OUR INTIAL SEASON!

WINTER SEASON

THIS IS WHAT WE CALL A CASUAL/PICK UP SEASON.  THIS IS WAY MORE LAID BACK THAN OUR SUMMER PROGRAM AND IS FOCUSED ON DEVELOPING EACH PLAYER.  THIS CASUAL FORM OF PLAY ALLOWS PLAYERS TO PLAY WITH NO PRESSURE OR FEAR OF MAKING MISTAKES.  THEY CAN SIMPLY PLAY, TRY NEW THINGS, MEET NEW PLAYERS; ITS SOCCER WITHOUT ANY PRESSURE OR EXPECTATIONS. INDOOR SOCCER REQUIRES PLAYERS TO BE MORE CREATIVE IN PLAY, DEVELOP BETTER CONTROL, REQUIRES MORE STAMINA AND COMMANDS TEAMWORK TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

  • PLAYERS MAY CHANGE TEAMS EACH WEEK

  • REFEREES OFFICIATE GAMES

  • COACHES ON HAND TO HELP PLAYERS BEFORE AND AFTER GAMES

  • PLAYERS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY IN MULTIPLE GAMES PER WEEK

  • COST IS FREE

  • PLAYERS ARE RANKED AFTER EACH WEEK TO HELP ASSIGN TEAMS FOR END OF THE SEASON TOURNAMENT

  • SEASON ENDS WITH CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT AND AWARDS.

WINTER RULES

We follow the FIFA Laws of the Game

Field of Play:

  • The basketball boundaries serve as the field of play

  • An arch around the goal is the goalie area

 

Ball: Size 5

Goals: 12' wide x 6' tall

Teams:  Open to players in 5th to 8th grade

  • 7v7 (including the goalie) All teams should assign one player as captain to communicate with the ref.

  • We sometimes have special games that will change GK roles and number of players.

 

Game Duration:

  • 13 min half

  • 26 min game

  • No extra time, when the buzzer sounds the half/game ends.

  • In the event a critical play occurs at the buzzer the ref will make the final determination.

  • 4 min halftime

Player Equipment:

  • Shin guards required

  • Goalie jersey is distinguished

  • No jewelry or accessories a ref deems dangerous

  • Tennis shoes or indoor soccer shoes

Referees:

  • 1 referee will officiate the game

  • An assistant ref will keep time and score

  • All referee decisions are final

  • The ref may overturn his own call after reconsideration prior to the restart of the game

  • The ref shall assess penalties and assure fair play

  • Refs have the power to give yellow and red cards

  • The ref may have the game clock stopped in unusual circumstances.

Special Game Rules

  • Penalties are taken from the top of the arch

  • Keepers can only touch the ball while in the arch

  • Goal kicks can be taken from anywhere in the arch

  • Structure violations are when the ball strikes the structure above the playing area such as lights, or ceiling.  Or when careless play occurs and property outside the playing area is struck.  This offense results in a penalty kick.

Additional Rules

  • There will be no rough housing on the sidelines

  • All church property will be respected

  • Respect will be shown to refs, coaches and leaders of this program

  • Everyone should understand this league is a privilege.  Anyone who does not show respect for others, the property, the league and the game of soccer can and will be uninvited to further activities.

  • Players are expected to cleanup after themselves, the gym should be left in better condition than we find it each week.  Players who cannot pick up after themselves will be uninvited to any further activities.

Parents

  • Before a player can play they must be registered (find form below).  This can be done in person or on our website.

  • Parents are not required to stay, you may drop your player off, but must be prompt in picking up your player.

  • Please understand that the winter is casual pick up games, we have no formal schedule and do not know when your player will play until they arrive.

  • There is limited seating in our gym.

  • Parents are encouraged to cheer LOUDLY.  However refs, church leaders and commissioners reserve the right to ask anyone to leave that uses abusive, disrespectful or inappropriate language.

  • We are not a babysitting service, please do not leave your child if you do not feel they are responsible enough to follow the rules.

COVID

  • Do not send your child to play if they are even a little sick or showing slight symptoms, we will send them home.

  • Temperatures will be taken upon entering the facility

  • Hand sanitizing stations will be set up in the gym

  • Face masks may be worn but are not required.

 
 

SUMMER SEASON

THE SUMMER IS THE TIME TO TAKE ALL THE SKILLS AND DEVELOPMENT THE PLAYERS HAVE LEARNED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND PUT IT TO WORK IN REAL GAMES.  IT ALL STARTS WITH A COACHES DRAFT TO DETERMINE WHAT TEAM PLAYERS ARE PLACED ON AND ENDS WITH THE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT.

  • PLAYERS ASSIGNED TO ONE TEAM FOR THE DURATION OF THE SEASON

  • REFEREES OFFICIATE GAMES

  • EXPERIENCED COACHES FOR EACH TEAM

  • EACH GAME IS RECORDED FOR RANKINGS SYSTEM

  • END OF THE SEASON TOURNAMENT TO DETERMINE A CHAMPION

  • END OF THE SEASON AWARDS BASED ON STATS AND PLAYER VOTES

  • COST IS $35 PER PLAYER (COVERS REFS AND EQUIPMENT)

How Teams are Formed

  • An assessment day is scheduled with coaches present and actively helping run the assessment

  • Immediately following the assessment coaches will hold a draft with the commisioner running the draft

  • In the first season draft order is randomly determined

  • Coaches with a child participating- their child is automatically their first draft pick.

 

Coaches and Referees

  • All coaches and referees are required to have soccer knowledge

  • There is an application on the church website to be completed

  • Coaches who need more training or experience can be paired with more experienced coaches to gain the needed knowledge

  • There will be a MANDATORY orientation for all coaches and refs that will last approximately one hour to ensure everyone is on the same page to give our league the best chance of a successgul season.

 

Divisions

  • Teams will be divided into 2 divisions

  • Teams will play all division opponents and possibly non division tournaments

 

Playoffs

  • Depending on the number teams formed will determine the number of playoff teams

  • The top teams in each division will be seeded based on their standings

  • A single elimination tournament will happen until we have one team from each division remaing

  • The final 2 teams will compete for the league championship

 

Season Table System

  • Teams receive 3 points for a win and 0 points for a loss, there are no draws

  • Tiebreaker 1 is goals scored, tiebreaker 2 is goals allowed

 

All Star Game

  • We will hold an all star game to recognize deserving players and to give coaches a motivational incentive for players to work hard.

  • Each team will get to choose a number of players to represent their team for the all star game

  • The number of players a team can nominate will depend on the number of teams formed

 

Awards Night

  • Avoca Church will sponsor an awards night in our worship center

  • Awards will be based on statistics gained throughout the season and coaches input.

  • Awards will include League MVP, Golden Boot, Best Keeper, Coach of the Year, Sportsmanship and many others.

CURRENT SEASON (WINTER) RANKINGS AND STATS

DURING OUR WINTER SEASON, WE DO NOT HAVE SET TEAMS EACH WEEK SO PLAYERS ARE RANKED INDIVIDUALLY BASED ON THE TEAMS THEY PLAYED WITH.  A PLAYER ON A WINNING TEAM RECIEVES 3 POINTS, DRAW IS 1 POINT AND A LOSS IS 0 POINTS.  AT THE END OF THE SEASON THE TOP 4 PLAYERS CAPTAIN TEAMS FOR THE TOURNAMENT.
